Malaysia Garments And Linens Cleaning Services Association Memorabilia

The Malaysia Garments And Linens Cleaning Services Association was founded during the early days. At that time, only a few laundry business owners joined the association as a member. It is due to the underdeveloped information and difficulty in communication. In addition, members are avoiding, excluding, and not communicating with each other. Therefore, the idea of gathering together is crucial to the industry, which is why we take the common interests of the members as the priority and forge ahead.

In the early days, there was a lack of laundry machinery and materials. The laundry work was all done by hand. The older generation was working hard all day long and all year round. But, the young ones in the laundry industry are unwilling to inherit the mantle. In addition, our country was experiencing the brutal Second World War. People were panicked, social unrest, and people’s livelihood was lacking. The people were thrifty, and the laundry industry was also going through a difficult moment. However, we knew we shoulder a huge responsibility to build the foundation of laundry development. It is rare that we are able to do it with sheer perseverance.

With the invention of electronic washing machines such as closed-type and circulating-type, machinery can support laundry work. As such, the laundry industry entered the machine age in the 1970s. We have always been adhering to the concept of industry unity, fulfilling our duties, and working hard. We lead the industry to work hard, strive for self-improvement, and think about changing the business model, thereby improving the service level of the laundry industry.

We care about our members’ growth and strive to support their development and innovation. We also advocate abandoning the labor-intensive concept and improving operating techniques. The reason is that we want to lead our members toward the modernized management concept. We provide our members the information about the latest laundry technology, operation, and management experience. With that, they built a beautiful store facade and computerized counter management. As such, they achieve brilliant performance and drive the country’s economic development one after another.

In the early days, laundry was purely a handicraft business. The income was low, the staff salary was thin, and the living standard was not high. Setting up an association is not easy. We are fortunate that the former sages have a firm will, help each other, exert a spirit of solidarity, and overcome many difficulties to establish the Malaysia Garments And Linens Cleaning Services Association.

Established in 1927, we are the leader of the Malaysian Chinese Guilds Association. Over the past 80 years, we have witnessed the transformation of Kuala Lumpur from a sparsely populated area to a prosperous international city. We have experienced British colonial rule, the difficulties of the Japanese war, and the country’s development in flux due to the changes in the general environment. Regardless, we still lead the industry to progress forward. We have stepped into mechanical and modernized our operation from manual labor.
